God Creates the World
001 Gospel Story for Kids | Main Street @ hwc
The Story
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1).
We recount the days of creation and what happened on each of those days along with how many times the author says that God called creation “good” and when it says “God said.” We read through Genesis 1:1-31 and did large group Bible study.
Teaching Points
- God existed before all things
- God spoke creation into existence
- God made man in his image
- Everything God made was good
The Gospel
Jesus was the “Word” that God spoke when he created the world (Colossians 1:15-17; John 1:1-3). An important thing to remember is that creation was created “good” (as it says repeatedly in Genesis 1). We learn in a couple of weeks that creation was subjected to futility because of the sin of Adam and Eve. Sin has consequences not just for us as humans, but also for the whole of creation.
The Gospel redeems and fixes not only broken humanity, but also ultimately the creation.
