God Creates Man and Woman
002 Gospel Story for Kids | Main Street @ hwc
The Story
Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being (Genesis 2:7).
Genesis 2 talks about God creating the world again, but with specific emphasis on the formation and relationship with human beings. Also mentioned is the presence of the Tree of Life as well as the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, and God’s command not to eat from the second tree.
Adam is charged with taking care of creation which includes naming the animals. When no suitable helper is found, God causes Adam to fall into a deep sleep and a rib is removed from him through which God fashions a woman. The man and woman were the first married couple.
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh (Genesis 2:24).
Teaching Points
- God creates all things for his purposes
- God reaches out to man
- God prescribes order and authority in creation
The Gospel
We find out in next week’s story that Adam will be the “man” who introduces sin into the world. Jesus is spoken about as the second or the last “man”. Jesus introduces God’s righteousness and salvation from sin into the world. The Gospel (as described by Tim Keller) is:
…that God himself has come to rescue and renew creation through the work and in the work of Jesus Christ on our behalf.
Thank God that he made a way of rescue and salvation!
