A Heart Captured by Grace // Positively Speaking // Mark Wilson

As I left the intensive care unit where my friend, Grace, was hospitalized, I could not help but marvel.

Through all the tubes, needles and wires, she still smiled.
A weary heart and tattered lungs,
Life and death in the balance,
Unable to speak,
And she still smiled.

The Packer playoff game was underway — yet, somehow, it didn’t seem quite so important as I made the long, snowy trek back home from Duluth. Win or lose: in the greater scheme of things, it really doesn’t matter.

I had just left the bedside of an angelic lady who knew how to stare death in the face, and still smile.

“When the One Great Scorer comes to write against your name, He marks, not that you won or lost, but how you played the game.” (Grantland Rice)

Oh, how I wish there could be a dose of Grace for everybody — so we would all face our troubles with faith and a smile.
A smile drives the sorrows away.

Do you want to know the reason why Grace could still smile — even in the darkest valley?
Because her heart has been captured by God’s amazing grace!
Grace for Grace!

When your heart is captured by grace. . .
petty complaints melt away.
small discontents shrivel to nothing.
the grumblings and murmurings cease.
the important issues become really important and the non-important issues are put in their place.
the fear is removed.

A heart captured by grace . . .

And we can smile.
