Faith Conquers Fears // Positively Speaking // Mark Wilson

Do you suffer from anxiety and fear? Have you been carrying a heavy load of guilt and discouragement?

If you do, I have some wonderful news! You do not need to carry this negative baggage any longer. I have a remedy that is guaranteed to cure a troubled heart.

Here it is – faith in God! It’s simple, but it works. Faith, put into action, can have a tremendous impact on your life.

My definition of faith is “trust”. It means letting go of things we can’t control and letting God take care of them for us.

Perhaps this is why Jesus said we should be like little children. They trust. My six-year-old daughter, Hannah loves to have me toss her into the air – the higher, the better! I can’t think of any adults who would let me do that to them.

The difference? Hannah trusts me completely in this little game. She knows I will catch her.

One of my favorite writers, Soren Kierkegaard, said, “Faith is a giant leap into the dark, knowing that someone will catch you.”

We fail to realize the power of faith when we refuse to let go. We want to handle things “our way”, and usually end up making a big mess of it all.

Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not lean on your own understanding.”

Do you know that the reason why self-help groups like Alcoholics Anonymous are so successful? It’s because of this very idea! They’re really not “self-help” groups at all. They’re “God-help” groups! The first step towards recovery is admitting our own powerlessness to handle the situation and recognizing that there’s Someone bigger than us who can deal with it.

Matthew 9:29 reminds us, “According to your faith will it be done to you.”

Can you think of a better way to live than releasing your burdens and letting God fill you with his peace?

An unknown author penned these stirring words:

As children bring their broken toys with tears for us to mend, I brought my broken dreams to Christ because He was my friend. But then instead of leaving him in peace to work alone, I hung around and tried to help in ways that were my own. At last I snatched them back and said, “How can you be so slow?” “My child”, he said, “What could I do? You never did let go.”

The one who trusts in God will never be dismayed.” — Isa. 28:16
