Let Peace Begin With Me // Positively Speaking // Mark Wilson

My friend, Linda Talboom, recently sent me the following thoughts concerning the current climate in the Hayward community. It is very unusual for me to hand this column off to another person, but Linda’s message needs to be heard by the entire community. As many are pointing out the problems, it is good to find voice speaking to the solution:

Let peace begin with me!
In my heart, my home and my community,
Let peace begin with me!

It seems that there is danger all around,
In every sight , in every sound.
A creaking door, means that danger lurks,
Concealing evil’s, nauseous smirk.

We hide ourselves behind locked doors.
Nerves are shaken until they are raw,
By shootings , killings and rapes untold,
It seems that to the devil we’ve been sold.

However, hope lies deep in the human heart,
If each one of us would do our part.
To bring peace on earth, it begins with me,
Perhaps then our own souls would be free.

Free from worry, and free from strife,
By caring about someone else’s life.
Doing unto others, as I’d have done for me,
It’s the golden rule lived out deliberately.

Let us join our hands, and work together,
Stopping hate and violence our endeavor.
Not one of us is perfect, so let us take a stand,
To bring hope, and peace to a broken land.

Let peace begin with me!
In my heart, my home and my community,
Let peace begin with me!
