True Wisdom // Positively Speaking // Mark Wilson

If you think you’re wise, you’re probably not. Foolishness, loudly trumpeted and displayed and displayed as knowledge is mental pyrite — fool’s gold.

“Fool’s gold” wisdom is really Wiz-dumb! You think you’re a Wiz — but you’re really dumb!

It is better to keep quiet and have people wonder if you’re foolish, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!

True wisdom is about “Being” the right kind of person and “Doing” the right kinds of things. The “doing” must always come from the “being.” You can pretend for a while, but sooner or later, the facade will come crumbling down. It’s much better to be real.

If you want to live right — you need to “Be” right inside — tuned in to true wisdom.

True wisdom comes only from God — It’s the only kind that makes sense in the long run.

“Wisdom is proved right by her actions.” Matthew 11:19

A wise person can occasionally do unwise things. An unwise person can occasionally do wise things — but usually it’s a package deal.

We must understand that wisdom is a gift from God — you don’t have it simply by your own merits. Daniel 2:21 says, “God gives wisdom to the wise.”

True wisdom is wedded with humility. If you show me an arrogant individual, I will show you someone a major wisdom deficiency.

Wisdom means knowing when to speak.
Wisdom means knowing when to keep quiet.
Wisdom means knowing when to work harder.
Wisdom means knowing when to let go.

Abraham Lincoln said, “When you have an elephant by the hind leg and he’s trying to run away, it’s best to let go!”

A few more wise thoughts from Honest Abe:
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot help little men by tearing down big men. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
You cannot further brotherhood by encouraging class hatred.
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away men’s initiative and independence.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

You will find true wisdom, only if you seek after it.
