Winning Over Worry // Positively Speaking // Mark Wilson

I recently read that a dense fog covering a seven city block area to a depth of 100 feet contains less than one glass of water. Just think — if all that fog would be condensed into water, you would hardly have enough to wet your whistle!

Worry is a lot like that fog. It covers up the truth, blocks our vision, and has very little substance.

Worry is like rust. It weakens life’s power and destroys it’s shine.

Worry is like poison. Just a little bit of it in your system, and you’re a sick person!

The Bible says, “Do not fret. It only leads to evil.”

I have found that to be true. There’s not one good thing that has come into my life as a result of fretting. Fretting is the interest paid on trouble before it is due.

Of course, there’s always the other perspective. One wise guy figured it all out: “Don’t tell me that worry doesn’t do any good. I know better! The things I worry about don’t happen!” I think I’d rather take the risk and not worry!

Look at it logically: 1) When you worry that something is going to go wrong, you have a bad feeling. 2) When something actually does go wrong, you have a bad feeling. 3) When you worry and something goes wrong, you have the bad feeling twice! 4) Why have the bad feeling twice when you get by with only having it once (or, better yet, not at all?)

The bottom line is this:
Do your best.
Pray that it’s blest,
Leave the rest — Don’t worry!
Worry gives small things big shadows.
