Keeping Positive // Positively Speaking // Mark Wilson

One day, Dale Carnegie was going through some difficult times. He made a list:
1. No health
2. My wife has left me
3. My job is gone
4. I haven’t any money
5. My children are all in jail

Then he wrote — “none of the above things are true, and for that I am thankful!”
Next to your relationship with God, nothing is more important than a good, positive mental attitude. The
quality of your life is largely determined by how you think. Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinketh in his
heart, so is he.” You become what you think about all the time.

Here are a few secrets to staying positive — even in negative circumstances.
1. Use what you have.
Instead of complaining about what you don’t have, make the most of what you do have! David only had a
small slingshot and a few rocks — with these, he slew a giant. A little boy only had five loaves and two
fish — and his meager lunch was used to feed 5000 people. Little is much when God is in it!

2. Be an ambassador of encouragement wherever you go.
Make it your goal to bless and lift people. You will always receive more than you give.

3. No matter what happens, keep looking for the good.
You can find something good in every situation. There is always something for which to be thankful. Our
experiences help us grow — even the painful ones. If your refuse to get bitter, you will get better!

4. Fill your mind with positive, faith inspiring thoughts.
Good thoughts help you live better. Of course, there are plenty of negative things you could dwell on — but
why would you want to do that? Nursing your troubles only makes it worse. Intead, train your mind to
focus on wholesome and inspiring matters.

5. Never surrender to negative emotions.
Sometimes they come in like a flood — and when they do, you must fight. Discouragement, anger,
resentment, and fear will sink your boat if you don’t keep bailing!

6. Give yourself away.
When you pay more attention to serving and helping others than how you’re feeling, you’ll end up feeling
better.

7. Live expectantly!
The best is yet to come.
