“When You Suffer Slander and Mistreatment”

Growing Strong in the Right Direction

1 Peter 2:12-25

Peter grew up in a world marked by Roman oppression and deep injustice.  As a younger  man, reckless, passionate Peter believe that retaliation was the only means to overcome the unjust suffering of the Romans. . .that is, until his life collided with Jesus.

In this text, Peter is writing to Christians being slandered and undergoing unjust treatment at the hands of those in charge.  However, because of Jesus, Peter’s advice is not that of retaliation, but redemption.  How should Christians appropriately respond when we suffer persecution for our beliefs?  This text offers us a motive, a method and the motivation to endure unjust suffering.
