Showing Our Support for Newtown, CT | from Pastor Mark

Sympathy-Snowdrops_smallIn my sermon yesterday, I mentioned that we will be collecting sympathy cards for the families who lost loved ones in the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy, and figured it may be helpful to share a few details about this process.

1) We’re asking you to prepare from one card up to 27 sympathy cards, signing your name, where you are from, including a personal message of support and encouragement.

2) We will be sending the cards to Pastor Keith Warner at Crosspointe Wesleyan Church in Catskill, NY, who is spearheading this effort with a team from his congregation, who will hand deliver them to Newtown.

3) The names of the victims have now been released and can be found online. If you prefer, you can write the family name on the envelope. That makes it more personal, and will help the team at Crosspointe. If you leave the envelopes blank, they will label them.

4) Our deadline for Hayward is Christmas Eve and we will be sending the cards on Dec. 26.

5) A suggestion — On Friday night, Dec. 21 (6:30 p.m.) we are going to hold a “Longest Night Service” for those who have lost loved ones, or are struggling during the holiday season. We will have a special time of tribute for the victims of the shooting — and this would be a beautiful time to bring your cards to the church.
