“Checking Up on Yourself” // Positively Speaking // Mark Wilson

A shop owner overheard a middle school boy talking on the cell phone.

“Hello, Dr. Brown?  Do you want to hire someone to cut your grass, run errands and do chores for you?  Oh, you already have someone who does that?  Well, are you completely satisfied with him?  OK, then.  Goodbye, Doctor.”

The shop owner, impressed with this young man’s initiative approached him and said, “Son, if you’re looking for work, I could use someone like you.”

“No thanks,” replied the boy, “I already have a job.”

“But I just overheard you trying to get a job from Dr. Brown.”

“No sir.  I am the guy who works for Dr. Brown.  I was just checking up on myself.”

From time to time, we all need to check up on ourselves.  It is easy to get caught up in our routine without evaluating results.
